Learning Management System (LMS) REA supports asynchronous learning from distance. The LMS is responsible for the co-ordination, the organization and materialization of all administrative operations concerning an eLearning programme or course which does not take place in real time.
The asynchronous distance learning system fulfils the requirements of a modern Learning Management System (LMS) with capabilities for learning content development and management (Learning Content Management System - LCMS) according to the latest specifications (SCORM 1.2).
REA is divided in two subsystems. The Learning Management System (LMS) and the Learning Content MAnagement System (LCMS).
The Learning Management system is responsible for the co-ordination, organization and materialization of all managerial and administrative operations regarding an eLearning programme or course.
The Learning Content Management Systems comprises of a repository of educational resources (theory,questions,multimedia material). Each educational resource can be accompanied by the appropriate metadata determined by the user. Also, the final educational material is developed in this system, which can use the resources from the LCMS. The developed educational meterial conforms with SCORM 1.2. Furthermore, the basic structure of a course developed in the system can comprise the structure for different modules.
REA is a web-enabled platform and follows the client-server architecture. It has been developed in Java programming language and conforms with Java Servlet Specification 2.2.
REA is accessible for users through a Web Browser (Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5+, Mozilla Firefox 1.5+) and is available in Greek and English language (the communication environment as well as the documentation and help).
